Teaching Art

Picture
My name is Amber Harr, and I am passionate about sharing my joy for creating. I have been painting for about 11 years, and I enjoy celebrating God's wonderful creation through my art. My art has been jury selected, and I am currently working towards a Bachelors in Art Education at ECU. I love to inspiring kids and adults of all ages to be creative. I currently teach art classes for retirement communities, school aged children, and adults. I joyfully do my very best at everything I do, and hope to inspire others.

How I Got Started:

Art has always been my favorite subject. My favorite color is yellow, but I like all the colors, especially bright ones. That is why I named my business AlohiArt, which means bright art in Hawian. In kindergarten, I began tracing pictures from a How to Draw book.  I would give my pictures to my classmates. When I was 8 years old my  parents gave me a professional art easel. When I was 9 years old I had accumulated lots of paintings so I decided to have a fundraiser to help feed the hungry.  I sold my artwork and earned $75 at the end of the day. I gave all the  money to an organization called Feed My Sheep that gives food to people in need on Maui. In 2009 I took my first art class at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center,  where I learned how to contrast colors. In 2010, I started selling note cards in a local card store called Paper Garden, in the Queen Kaahumanu Center.  I love to paint all the wonderful things that God has made. I often paint form photos I have taken and I'm always on the look out for new inspiration. I also enjoy putting paintings together form my imagination and trying to tell a story through my work. I am an acrylic painter, but my ocean collection and a few others like them are in watercolor and I have worked with all kinds of mediums. My very first art show was held at the Maui Ocean Center in 2010. Several of my paintings have been accepted in juryed art shows, and I have sold a number of originals. After living in Maui for 7 years I moved back to North Carolina where I was born. Since then I have enjoyed inspiring others to be creative through my work and by teaching art classes. I am inspired by all the wonderful colors God has created in nature. I plan to continue to use my gifts and talents to help others.

I Love to share my art with others!
I hope you enjoy my work.

Aloha,
     Amber

Helping Others

Picture
AlohiArt is supporting Feed My Sheep this year, by donating 10% of all its profits to help feed the hungry. This wonderful organization has stomped out hunger on the island of Maui where I grew up, and also offers prayer and support for those in need. (http://feedmysheepmaui.com/)
